Looking at some midpoints

Ah, midpoints! One of the most wonderful of astrological techniques, yet underused in the extreme – I think because they require quite a bit of pondering. If you really try to understand them they can provide a doorway into much that is hidden in a chart.

Tyler has Venus on his Sun/Moon midpoint. The Sun/Moon midpoint signifies VITALITY, according to Marc Jones. And it is true that Tyler is an appreciator (Venus) of vitality. The Sun and Moon as a combination is our feeling of completeness and groundedness – it's the energy (Sun) of our feelings (Moon). And so Tyler can appreciate (Venus) the energy of feelings IN GENERAL. It also means that his vitality (Sun/Moon) is enhanced by relating (Venus).

In contrast, my Sun/Moon midpoint is contacted by Uranus. I am vitalized by THE STRANGE (Uranus). With body and soul (Sun/Moon) – meaning the whole of my being – I'm seeking all the surprises that provide openings into The Cosmic. I will say also that when I'm inventing and experimenting (Uranus) I feel a fulness of vitality.

Akiko has Mercury on her Sun/Moon midpoint. She is vitalized by communication, and by being a channel for information. And by healing, for never forget that Mercury rules Virgo, and that Mercury is the planet of Asculepius, the greek god of healing, his symbol being the Cadusus of Hermes (Mercury).

Here is a midpoint in my own chart I find interesting: Saturn on the Uranus/Neptune midpoint. Uranus/Neptune has to do with what we bring to society at large, and to human progress, spiritually speaking. Whatever I bring is most likely going to unfold slowly, take a long time, might be difficult, but requires my being patient, steady and true to my path – all Saturn traits.

I feel too, that orbs on midpoints need to be looked at closely, for the ones that are the closest are going to be made much stronger by their exactitude. For instance, Akiko has Node on the Uranus/Pluto midpoint, WITHIN 6 MINUTES OF ORB! In connecting with people (Node) she has the capacity to bring transformative (Pluto) Innovation (Uranus), and an intense (Pluto) uninhibitedness (Uranus). In other words, its her dharma to FREE PEOPLE UP, TO CHALLENGE THEM TOWARD FINDING THEIR TRUE UNIQUENESS. It can also mean that her spiritual progress (Node) may go through sudden, surprising spurts in which drastic transformations can occur.

Tyler has Mercury on the Moon/Uranus midpoint with a 7 minute orb – extremely close. This can mean communicating (Mercury) with an unbridled (Uranus) subjectivity (Moon) – or communication (Mercury) with a feeling (Moon) of rebellion, or surprise. All this is true of him. It feels like his words stick acupoints in a person's emotional body on a whim or momentary impulse (Moon), and that the unexpectedness (Uranus) of it is felt at a very subjective (Moon) level, making one more aware of one's emotional self.

One of my closest midpoints is Mercury on Venus/Mars. So I have the capacity of communicating with a loving (Venus) assertiveness (Mars), or alternately, I might say a smooth assertiveness. It is true, I certainly do communicate pointedly – that is, assertively, but yet I think I'm always trying to imbue it with a kindness and smoothness. If we read “cleverness” for Mercury, it means that I have the ability to apply my cleverness to being efficient (Marc Jones says that the Venus/Mars pair signifies one's ability to be efficient).

Tyler's cleverness, on the other hand – manifests through his ability to catch people unawares (Uranus) on an emotional (Moon) level, the purpose of this being to help people to release (Uranus) pent-up feelings.

Akiko has Mercury on the Moon/Pluto midpoint. Her cleverness is in helping others to transform feelings – maybe through intensifying them until they change – which is often how Pluto works. It can also mean that she communicates (Mercury) with intense emotionality. And I've noticed about her that even when she is speaking rationally and objectively her voice and words always convey an underlying intensity of feeling.

This has been fun! I feel, in a way, like its kind of fragmented just throwing out all these insights. But I'm going to go ahead and just do it for awhile.

Have a great day, everyone.

Some Notes on Aries

The one thing Aries most needs is clear and strong alignment with its instinct. When Aries has this, any and all problems can be confronted and worked through in a way that leads onward and upward into higher states of consciousness.

The problem is, that when Aries is overshadowed by neurotic loops, then the connection with its clear instinct is disrupted, and we find Aries creating conflicts and confrontations that go nowhere. Aries truly is the sign of confrontation but the irony of this is that the neurotic Aries will tend to manufacture crises which actually are serving to protect itself from what it REALLY needs to confront.

Aries expresses the truth that sometimes it is better to act without thinking. It instinctively knows that thinking can get in the way, whereas impulse, when inspired by pure, unadulterated creativity, can carry one into greater aliveness.

Aries also has a way of demanding that things be simple. It is not that it is incapable of perceiving complexity, it is that it carries in it the magic of being able to look through and beyond complexities. Being the farthest sign from Libra, it is the sign freest of faltering, wavering uncertainty – all the back and forth considering of options that Libra engages in. And as Libra is the sign of aesthetics, Aries is too busy exploring the South Pole and fighting starvation and frostbite to have any time to concern itself with the fashionability of its winter wardrobe.

Aries is the primitive, the basic, the “lets get on with it, no matter how sticky or difficult or inconvenient things are. JUST DO IT!”

The primitivism of Aries can be wonderfully refreshing, and feel eternally new. It can take some old and worn-out idea or concept and through its magic express it as if it were something just discovered for the first time. It is the breath of spring. And when people say that Aries is not good at finishing things, I say, first of all, that that is not the job of Aries, and that second of all, the very concept of finishing things is often nothing more than an empty formality and an illusion.

Unfortunately, it is one of the signs most likely to commit murder as well as suicide. Not all simple solutions to problems are the best ones.

Aries is currently investigating string theory and parallel universes.

Simultaneous Transits

Hi, Everyone! Now that my book on degrees, "The Circular Temple" is well underway, I want to start using this blog as an actual blog rather than as a format for writing a book, which is what it has been.

One idea that has been under emphasized in astrological teaching is the concept of simultaneous transits. Really its a very simple idea: if you want to know more about a transit, just look at everything else going on astrologically during the transit, and it will help you to define the particular and distinct flavor of that particular transit.

Example: Soon I'm going to have Saturn cross my Neptune, but at nearly the same time I'm having Jupiter square Uranus. So my Neptune energy is being tested, and grounded, for this is what Saturn does, but at the same time there is an expansion (Jupiter) of freedom happening in my life. All the uncertainties (Saturn) I have about my ideals, and about my intuition (Neptune) are being accompanied by an expansion and enrichment (Jupiter), especially in the realm of relating (transiting Jupiter is moving through 7ith house), and ultimately a gaining of greater openness and liberation (Uranus being the planet squared).

I must say that right now I am acutely focused (Saturn) on all my illusions, delusions and self deceptions -- many of these being subtle, but having been with me for a long time, and am feeling like making a new beginning (conjunction) in terms of having the enthusiasm (Jupiter) to liberate (Uranus) myself from them.

Also, within a couple of days of this Mars is opposing my Sun. Always look to Mars to show the potential outlet of any energy. Oppositions are always about relating and balancing, so I am feeling a need in the midst of the energies just described to relate (opposition) in such a way that my inherent purpose(Sun) is asserted constructively (Mars), or another way of saying it is to take action (Mars) concerning what is most important to me (Sun).

The main mistake that many astrology students make is to get certain concepts about planets, signs and house in their head and then to become locked into those interpretations. The high art of astrology requires a constant expanding and deepening of ones vision of its basic principles.

I have seen charts in which Saturn/Neptune combinations produced dreadful results. This pair can mean the shattering of ideals, tremendous letdowns, or maybe indefinable fears that plague one. I am experiencing none of this with this transit. Why? Well, I'm 62 and I've been gradually and persistently working to ground my Neptune for a long time. My ideals are nowhere near as unrealistic as they were 30 years ago! And when it comes to nameless fears and being plagued by negative psychic energy, I've spent a lot of time in the past working with these things, and clearing them from my consciousness. All transits happen at the right time, and each one of them is offering you exactly what you need.

At best Saturn brings greater certainty and depth, and this is exactly how I'm feeling about my Neptune. My intuition is speaking more loudly and clearly than ever now. And I am experiencing also some irrational fears which I am now more than ever able to witness arising in myself and to identify their source. The objectivity of Saturn can present itself as a beautiful coldness like the clarity of a winter sky, where things can be seen for what they really are.

I plan to try to write at least a little bit each day on this blog, so I hope as I do that more and more of you will come to read and to comment. For now, love to you all. May we become increasingly harmonized in all our creations.
